Sarah Mortimer BA ARAD PDTD RTS

Sarah Mortimer is an international freelance dancer and RAD qualified dance teacher. She was born in Maidstone, Kent and started dancing at the age of 9. She studied various genres including ISTD tap, modern, jazz, cecchetti and ballet, all to an advanced level. After attending as an associate of Urdang and London Senior Ballet Sarah auditioned for vocational schools at the age of fifteen. After many successful auditions which included being awarded full scholarships at London Studio Centre and Masters Performing Arts College. Sarah decided to accept Ballet West, Scotland due to its beautiful surroundings, prestigious ballet training and the opportunity to graduate with a BA Hons Degree in Classical Ballet and Dance Performance. Gaining a degree at the young age of 19 was an achievement in itself.

Sarah toured Scotland with Ballet West Company, performing roles such as The Snow Queen in The Nutcracker and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet as well as having the opportunity to tour China for two months, performing lead roles in The Opera House of National Grand Theatre, Beijing, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai and many more wonderful venues.

 

Whilst Sarah attended Ballet West she gained distinction in all
her major RAD examinations and took her Solo Seal. Sarah was the winner of the 2009 Adeline Calder Scholarship, in 2010 she was the only British finalist in the Genée International Ballet Competition held in Cape Town, South Africa, and was chosen to be the poster girl for the Genée the following year held in New Zealand. She has also been on various TV shows including BBC Alba Dannsa as a featured dancer and BBC’s Inside Out.

On graduation in 2011 Sarah auditioned for many ballet companies across Europe. She was offered Cork City Ballet, Ballet de Nice Mediterranean, Theatre Vanemuine (Estonia), Ballet Theatre UK and reserve at Lithuania National Ballet.
After much deliberation Sarah choose to stay in the UK and in June 2016 had her last performance with Ballet Theatre UK.

At Ballet Theatre UK her roles included, Clara in The Nutcracker, The White Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland, Belle in A Christmas Carol, Black Swan in Swan Lake, the Little Mermaid in A Little Mermaid, The Princess in Aladdin, Gerda in The Snow Queen and The Cricket in Pinocchio performing in many venues across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, including the prestigious Brighton Dome and Gleneagles,
Scotland.

Sarah has recently graduated from The Royal Academy of Dance gaining the Professional Dancer’ Teaching Diploma (PDTD) becoming a registered teacher (September 2016).  Sarah has been guest teaching at a number of schools during her professional career including The School of Ballet Theatre UK, Masters Performing Arts College, Ballet West Edinburgh Associates and South East Ballet Scholars.

Being a freelance dancer, Sarah is able to teach and inspire the next generation. Sarah teaches at Masters Performing Arts College, 360 Dance (Tunbridge Wells), Tenterden Ballet Studios and a guest teacher at various associates and courses including Ballet West Edinburgh Associates and South East Ballet Scholars. Sarah has a great passion for this art and as well as teaching for others, Sarah provides Private Coaching for students.
