Gordon Stevens
Born in Arkadelphia and raised in Hope. Gordon began studying dance at the age of five and received his early ballet training at the Southwest Ballet Centre in Fort Worth, with William Martin Viscount. At 14 he was accepted into the school of American Ballet, the official school of The New York Ballet.
In 1986 he joined the New York’s City Ballet. He swiftly moved through the ranks to Soloist where he danced numerous roles in the Company which include Balanchine’s Episodes, Chaconne,Symphony in C, La Sonnambula and Stars and Stripes.
His repertoire also includes Jerome Robbins The Four Seasons, The Concert, Watermill, as well as Peter Martin’s Tanzspiel, and The Waltz Project. And in a role especially created for him by Martin’s ballet A Fool For You.
Gordon also appeared on the “Live from Lincoln Center” telecast of “ Ray Charles in Concert with The New York City Ballet”. And performed along side his Sister in Oklahoma in his home State of Arkansas.
Other credits include The Motion picture of New York City Ballets Nutcracker.
Since retiring Gordon has guested with numerous Companies and produced a behind the scenes documentary “ En Point” As well as coaching, Gordon enjoys handing down the knowledge and expertise of the partnering skills he learned throughout his career.
Amongst many local and International schools He has also worked with Michael Vernon coaching and teaching at Indiana University as well as Dallas Fort Worth and Elmhurst.
